What is the Training Provider Registry?
The Training Provider Registry helps commercial driver’s license (CDL) applicants connect with training providers to complete the required entry-level driver training. Training providers registered in the Training Provider Registry self-certify that they meet the requirements established in the Entry-Level Driver Training regulations.

Register
Training providers must register and self-certify that they meet all FMCSA requirements that apply to:
- Curricula
- Facilities
- Vehicles and equipment
- Training instructors
- State-based requirements (as applicable)
During registration, training providers may select whether or not to list their contact information in the Training Provider Registry.
Search
CDL applicants access the Training Provider Registry to begin their search for a training provider. Only training providers listed on the Training Provider Registry can certify that a driver has successfully completed the required entry-level driver training.
Drivers contact training providers to learn more about the trainings they offer and to engage their services. This is done outside the Training Provider Registry.
Certify
After a driver successfully passes the required assessments, the training provider electronically submits the driver-trainee's certification information to the Training Provider Registry.
Driver certification information includes:
- Driver-trainee name and CDL/CLP number and State of issuance
- CDL class or endorsement and type of training completed (behind-the-wheel or theory)
- Total number of clock hours spent behind the wheel (if applicable)
- Training provider name and TPR ID number (assigned during registration)
- Date of successful completion of training
Verify
The State Driver Licensing Agency (SDLA) uses data made available from the Training Provider Registry to verify that the applicant has certified completion of the required entry-level driver training before administering one of the tests below:
- Skills test for obtaining a Class A or Class B CDL for the first time.
- Skills test for obtaining a passenger (P) or school bus (S) endorsement for the first time.
- Knowledge test for obtaining a hazardous materials (H) endorsement for the first time.
